The Benefits Of A Winter Wedding

If you’re planning on tying the knot, one key decision you’ll have to make is what time of year to marry.

One popular wedding listing website has August and September as the most popular months. But there are more benefits to bucking that trend than you may have realised, and a winter wedding can be nothing short of magical.

Here’s why:

  • Better availability plus cheaper rates

With summer statistically the more popular marriage season, you’re more likely to find late availability if that’s what you need, and to be able to book your venue of choice on your preferred date. What’s more, you may well find special offers on bookings made between November and March.

And, by the way, your suppliers of choice are more likely to be around at this time of year as well, and potentially open to negotiating on price.

  • Enjoy a winter feast

While summer may be all about Pimms and lemon possets, at this time of year you can treat your guests to a sumptuous feast of pies and puddings. Plus you can serve treats like mulled wine or spiced cider, or indulgent late-night hot chocolate with whipped cream as part of the ideal colder-weather celebration.

  • Atmospheric lighting

It obviously gets darker earlier during the colder months. Think log fires, twinkling fairy lights, chandeliers and lanterns. You have so many opportunities to create some magically atmospheric and cosy, welcoming lighting that just aren’t possible when the evenings are lighter for longer.

In fact, with that in mind, try to visit your venue during a late afternoon in winter to see for yourself what the place looks like when it’s lit up.

  • Sensational seasonal styling

Ditch the pale pastels of summer and spring in favour of the rich palette of the coldest time of year. You can unleash your creativity in the wintertime. You can go to town with deep hues and thick cloths on the table and gorgeous centrepieces, not to mention candles.

  • Less ‘wedding fatigue’

Your big day will stand out, just because there are typically fewer weddings at this time of year. If you’re of an age where everyone seems to be getting married, your wedding could become just one more to attend. (And plan and budget for.) Equally, you won’t be clashing with any big summer holidays that your guests may have booked.

  • Embrace Christmas

If you get married during the party season, everyone will be in the mood to celebrate. What’s more, your venue may already be decorated in a way you love for the festivities, for example with a beautiful Christmas tree.

Winter weddings at Chilli Barn

Chilli Barn is a sensitively converted traditional Yorkshire stone barn like no other near Otley, West Yorkshire. Our location has a stunning rural backdrop together with closeness to urban centres and great transport links. Plus we combine our wedding venue’s rustic heritage with modern glamour.

And the Barn’s size and unique character make it ideally suited to couple who are after a relaxed, informal Yorkshire wedding venue with an intimate, friendly ambience.

We love a winter wedding for all the reasons listed above and more. Between November and March (i.e. late autumn to early spring), the Barn is especially cosy and intimate. And you can host up to 40 daytime guests and 90 in the evening. The mezzanine level is perfect for dining and frames our stunning antique chandelier hanging over the ceremony space as a key focal point. The recent conversion of the Barn ensure a warm, cosy space, fully insulated, draughtproof and centrally heated.

We encourage couples to decorate the space their way, giving full access the day before wedding day. The more ‘hygge’ the better – bring on the festoon and fairy lights, lanterns and candles! And outside, guests can gather round the fire pit.

You can check availability for our Yorkshire wedding venue. Get in touch to learn more about booking your wedding with us at Chilli Barn, and we’ll take it from there.
